Homeopathy

Founded by Samuel Hahnemann in the early 1800s, Homeopathic medicine has grown popular as a perceived ‘alternative medicine’ in which the body is claimed to heal itself with the help of highly diluted substances.

Hahnemann published the concept of “like cures like, outlining his ideas of homeopathy based on the following key principles:

  • An illness or disease could be cured by giving a treatment or medicine which would produce similar symptoms as that illness.

  • The minimum dose law which suggests the smaller the dose, the more effective it is in treatment. In fact, the tincture is diluted to such extremes it is suggested there are no molecules of the original substance remaining.

Despite its continued use today, a lack of scientific backing posits homeopathy as ethically unjustifiable in the world of medicine.
