The Father of Modern Yoga
Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya (1888 - 1989) started a yoga school in Mysore, predominantly for young boys, which saw the development of a sequence known as Ashtanga-Vinyasa.

This form of Hatha Yoga, incorporating breath (Ujjayi), movement (asana), focal point (drishti) and energetic locks (bandhas), was popularised by Patthabi Jois and it is still widely practiced today.
Krishnamacharya’s teachings spread across the world thanks to other influential students such as B.K.S Iyengar, Indra Devi, and T.K.V. Desikachar.
