Chinese Tech company ByteDance launched its TikTok app in 2016 and in less than four years, it had accumulated over 3 billion downloads worldwide.

Wellness trends have become popular in recent years on the social media platform, with the hashtag #wellness racking up 13.8 billion views.

TikTok claims its wellness community focuses on the “body, mind, and soul” and is aimed at those “looking to find inspiration to take on a new routine” or “find simple ways to lead to a healthier lifestyle”. 

While littered with resources relating to health, lifestyle, and wellbeing, experts warn against the myriad of misinformation that permeates the platform, despite TikTok’s fact checking efforts.
